I am passionate about self-development, and one of the things I love about my job is that it allows me to explore different modalities and theories. Some of the other training and continuous personal development (CPD) I have completed includes:
I am very interested in the mind and body connection and the impact of emotions, and environmental factors such as nutrition on physical and psychological symptoms with a focus on finding balance.
I'm passionate about my work with clients and the following theories are some of the things that have influenced my practice.
Attachment Theory is amazing and explores relationships. I use it in many different ways but it often underpins our relationship with ourselves, our behaviours as well as our relationships with others. If you wanted a book to read about adult attachments I can recommend Attached.
I can recommend Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller.
A Client Centred approach -
focuses on the idea that clients are the experts in their lives (not me) and puts them at the centre of the work. The therapeutic relationship is key, we work together to understand what you need as you’re the expert in your life.CBT- How thoughts, feelings and behaviours link and how that impacts us in our daily lives. Another book recommendation that can help to explore some of the unhelpful patterns of thinking we have fallen in to is Reinventing your life:
Reinventing your life by Jeffrey Young and Janet Klosko.
EMDR
- Process and recover from experiences that are having a negative impact. These experiences can either be one off events (Big- T Traumas/ PTSD) or little t traumas that have created distress over time. I have linked some videos to help explain the EMDR process.
Internal Family System (IFS) informed
- How our internal system (parts of us) functions and what has led to some of our adaptive or maladaptive behaviours. For more information see the works of Richard Schwartz.Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)- Pain is the bodies interpretation of a threat and PRT can help to process neuroplastic pain signals so that they can become less threatening. "Having had various therapists and counsellors in the past I can safely say there is no one like Emma. I have worked with her for a couple of years and the improvement within myself is more than I ever thought was possible.
She is incredibly approachable, non judgemental and honest. She definitely considers the individual and is so quick to understand you and your specific needs.
Needless to say I thoroughly recommend Emma!"
I can’t express how much Emma has helped me on and off over the past 3 years. I was experiencing a bereavement in my family going back to 15 years ago and over a course of 8 months I felt like a different person, I like that I can have one off sessions if I feel I just need to check in.
I couldn’t recommend going to Emma enough, I give all my friends and family her information if they to need to reach out to somebody.
